Argyle Lake Green Circle
Ecological Project
Purpose of the Northern Western Australia Afforestation Project
The main goal of this environmental project is to gain practical experience in afforestation and the creation of a sustainable ecosystem in the desert. Creation of tropical forests in some areas along the coast Argyle Lakes opens up new opportunities in Australia.
The climate potential of Lake Argyle
The presence of a sufficiently large artificial reservoir capable of maintaining the level of groundwater and ensuring daily maintenance of air humidity. This makes it possible to refuse artificial watering of seedlings, which creates a more natural survival of young trees during afforestation.
Choosing a place for afforestation
When choosing a place for afforestation, it is necessary to look for the beds of drying up streams, in which small reservoirs can be created that delay the rapid flow of water. On flat areas, it will be enough to create small holes or long ditches to soak water into the ground.
Creation of
small ponds
Artificial waterscapes and additional species of trees, shrubs and grasses will reduce the effectiveness of rains by holding water in the soil. Thus, afforestation significantly reduces the likelihood of severe droughts and floods.
Selection of tree species for
afforestation
Most of the territory proposed for afforestation is occupied by hills. The landscape consists of hilltops, which are sometimes covered with rare trees and bushes, hillsides covered with rare eucalyptus trees, and beds of dry streams with small floodplain areas and, as on the slopes, rare trees and shrubs.
Creation of
a tree nursery
To plant trees, we need to create a nursery. To create and maintain a tree nursery, we need a lot of water to water the seedlings. Infrastructural facilities will also be required to maintain the nursery.
Afforestation
technology
Depending on the nature, we use different technologies for planting trees and supporting seedlings. On flat areas with a minimum slope, landscape preparation is not carried out or is carried out in minimal volumes.
Afforestation
results
As a result of afforestation of a significant area of the surrounding area of Lake Argyle, some of the features inherent in the forest will be formed. The planted trees will form the forest canopy. This will reduce daily fluctuations in air temperature in the lower layer of the forest. The moisture in the soil will increase.
Participation
in the project
To implement the project, we will need financial assistance, assistance from professionals and volunteers. We also invite the local population to participate to collect information about the area, plant and animal species and organize supplies.
End
of afforestation
The main feature of a real forest is its ability to regenerate. This means that we will stop reforestation work only when we see how the seeds of the trees sprout and become new trees without the help of people. This means that the trees we planted have become forest.
